The empty bed
The teddy bear
Do not linger
I am not here
Please do not cry
I will return
In just eight weeks
It'll be half term
About the Poem
In England, it is still not uncommon for boys to be sent away to boarding school at the tender age of seven. Strangely, it is often the mothers who cry themselves to sleep at night, while the boys take on the characteristics of the feral castaways in Lord of the Flies.
